Reverse Swing Nearly Lost in ODI Cricket

V V Kujur | Wednesday, October 10, 2012 | | 1 Comment so far
You have seen bowler bowling reverse swing, lethal weapon for pace bowlers but now as a cricket fan or spectators have You ever noticed it is nearly lost in one day internationals (ODI)cricket matches, because two white balls are used now from start of match in one day international cricket match, from each end,in both innings of One Day International cricket matches. That makes 25 overs bowled with each ball from each ends.So the ball now does not become sufficient good enough or it does not tear and wear to start reverse as it has leather covering  still in good condition as both the portion around the seem of ball are still hard. And on same time it does not allow surface of leather sufficient friction with nearby air to start reverse.

The concept of using two white balls simultaneously came into rule following a fact that white ball becomes dirty soon and it does creates visibility problem to batsman. On other hand a white ball generally starts reversing when it is 30 plus over old due to roughness of leather cover on white ball,as a speciality white ball starts reversing earlier in comparison to red ball, but now a days red ball is no more used in one day cricket. You have seen bowlers and fielders keeping one half of the white ball shiny by rubbing but this was the case when white ball was used for 36 overs ,according to old rule a single white ball was used for up to 36th overs in one day cricket and after 36th over new white ball was introduced, this gives ample time to start reversing as the texture of the white ball is good enough for bowlers to ball a reverse swing for at least 5 - 6 overs. But now the introduction of two white ball from start of one day cricket match have ceased the occurrence of reverse swing and the pace bowlers are deprived of this extra asset in their bags.

This has affected many pace bowlers around the world ,who has mastery over this art of bowling in cricket, some of them include Umar Gul of Pakistan,Jaheer Khan of India,Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka and many other too into this list.Reverse swing is very helpful in the later overs in a one day cricket match. All this bowlers used reverse swing as a asset in slog overs to control the run rate of opposition and this tool has also given this bowlers many wickets too.The introduction of two white balls at each end have paralysed mainly fast bowlers in the slog overs.

Though this introduction have taken the reverse swing away from the bowler but on same time this have provided more chances of traditional swing to fast bowlers in the starting overs of a one day cricket match as both balls maintain the hardness and shine for a longer time (nearly 15 - 20 overs ) in comparison to older rule changing white ball after 36 overs bowled, particularly on hard pitches and good seeming conditions of South Africa and Australia for one day international cricket matches.

West Indies Win Will Rejuvenate Cricket in Caribbean

V V Kujur | Tuesday, October 09, 2012 | | 1 Comment so far

Prediction at Cricket Obsession has proven true and West Indies have won the T 20 World Cup Cricket. Now they are the new champions of T 20 cricket, this title has now remove the dryness of world cup. West Indies have won ODI (50-50 overs) world cup long before 33 years in the year 1979,which was the golden era of West Indian Cricket.

West Indies clinched the T 20 Championship by beating host Sri Lanka in mega final of this event. Electing batting first after winning toss, this decision seems wrong when they put 137 runs in allotted 20 overs,as they have made only 48 runs in 12 overs. The big guns of West Indian batting were contained by good bowling of Sri Lanka's bowler. But the heroics of Samuels in batting have taken them to a respectable total of 137 runs which has given him the award of best player of the match. Once it seems that Sri Lanka's batsman will easily chase down this total. But the Samuels batting is equally well supported by West Indian bowlers, who has taken wickets at the right time of intervals.

This win has given a new life to cricket in Caribbean Islands. Cricketing activities are nearly ceased in this region and people are more attracted to other games but this win of T 20 world cup will surely rejuvenate cricket in this region and this is also good for Caribbean cricket. Now people will like to play cricket and also come to watch live cricket at stadiums with more passion and support to their players.

In 70s and 80s West Indian cricket was at the peak when they used to monopolized cricket in both the formats of cricket - Test Match and One Day International. In course of time, after retirements of great guns of West Indies cricket, the glory has been lost and there are many ups and down in West Indian cricket and the team lost its Top position in world cricket .Now this win have given a new meaning and new light to cricket in this region of Caribbean Island including Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados and many other islands, which is good for future of cricket in this region.

Indies Favorite To Win T20 Cricket World Cup

V V Kujur | Sunday, October 07, 2012 | | | Be First to comment
So now things are seen more clear as T 20 Cricket World Cup is just going to finish today,7 Oct. 2012,at its peak of destination. If you are a fan of 20-20 cricket, this tournament have provided lots of excitement during the progress of world cup . As you know the mega final is between host Sri Lanka and mighty West Indies. After a massive win over Australia West Indies entered into final and on same West Indies is the only team to qualify for semis on base of their batting power.Earlier in group matches West Indies lost to Australia, courtesy of D/L due to disturbing rain in the match.

As in earlier post we have not predicted West Indies to enter in semi final, you have read in previous post related to T 20 world cup that the predicted teams entering semi finals are host Sri Lanka, Pakistan ,India and Australia but no West Indies there in predictions. But now in present situation the way the West Indian showed the batting performances, they are the hot favorite to win this year T 20 World Cup.Odds are favoring West Indian batting power as there are very good players of spin bowling in their camp and on other hand Sri Lanka heavily depends upon on their spin attack. The main plus factor of West Indies is Chris Gayle's tremendous form in this World Cup,same time Samuels and Bravo are also good player of spin.

Mega Final T20 Cricket World Cup

The way the West Indian batsman showed their batting talent in semi-final match against Australia, scoring a record 205 runs ; a record in T 20 Cricket World Cup,chances are ,they will continue to do it same in mega final.

On same, Sri Lankan team will try to perform best in front of their home crowd and conditions,as a fact this is Sri Lanka's consecutive appearance in T 20 World Cup final.Last time they have lost to England in 2010. Coincidently Sri Lanka has also appeared in finals of One Day International Cricket World Cup last year against India. So they will try their best to get title this year.

In my opinion West Indies are favorite to win this year T 20 Cricket World Cup.The Sunday evening is going to be full of rocking and exciting  cricket.Just wait for few hours and watch the final match.

McCullum Scores Highest in T20 Cricket

V V Kujur | Friday, September 21, 2012 | | Be First to comment
New Zealand's wicket keeper batsman Brendon McCullum hit a tremendous century in a T 20 match against Bangladesh in a World Cup match at Pellekle ,Sri Lanka .He smashed 123 runs in 58 balls with a strike rate of more than 200 plus,he has hit 7 mighty Sixes along with 11 boundaries all round the park,The cricket ground seems small when he is hitting the ball all around .He has now become the only batsman to hit 2 centuries  in T 20 international matches.Beside it he has also become top scores in a T 20 international match also.

As in earlier post You have read about the most expected batsman to hit a century in World cup ( You can read below this post ). Brendon McCullum was among one in the list of predicted players who can hit century in this T 20 Cricket World Cup.He also held the record of scoring most runs in T 20 international cricket match, with this century his tally of runs have reached more than 1500 runs ,with a average nearing 40s.By hitting this century he has now become a new member of elite club of batsman hitting a century in T 20 cricket World Cup,along with Chris Gayle of West Indies,Mahela Jayawardhane of Sri Lanka and Suresh Raina of India. As a matter of coincidence all are playing in this World Cup too.

McCullum hit his first International Century in T 20 Cricket match against Australia in 2010.A week back he was also declared best batsman of T 20 International cricket by ICC at a function in Sri Lanka. He topped the ICC list by making 91 runs in 55 balls recently against India at Chennai.

He is very successful in this format of cricket. He have also hit few centuries in T 20 cricket leagues too.Thats why he is one of favorite player to picked in T 20 Cricket leagues by the various league owners around the world.

Nearly two week of world cup is left and we will eager to watch other batsman to hit century. Possibilities are there to see more centuries hit in this world cup .As the possible batsman who can hit centuries are mentioned on earlier post.

Effects Of ICC New Rules On ODI Cricket

V V Kujur | Friday, September 21, 2012 | | 1 Comment so far
ICC has modified rules and regulations for One Day International Cricket matches which are going to be incorporated from 1st of October 2012.According to present rule in 50 over cricket match, there are set of 3 power plays,Mandatory power play, bowling power play and a batting power play,as you know mandatory power play commences at start of each innings and last to the last delivery of 10nth over. The next two power plays, bowling and batting depends upon the discretion of fielding team or batsman at the pitch, batting or bowling power play are set of 5 overs, which can be either taken by batsman or the fielding team before the commencements of 37 over and should be finished before 41st over, when if there is a full 50-50 over cricket match.Either of batting  or bowling team can take this power play for five overs in a cricket match.

According to modified rules, which is incorporating from 1st of October 2012,Now ICC has kept only two sets of power plays, first is mandatory power play which will commence as earlier ,there will be a set of 10 overs in each innings in this power play plus a bowling power play for a set of 5 overs. And from 1st October there will be no batting power play in action in ODI cricket matches.ICC have also change the field restriction criteria,as you know now, there are 5 fielders allowed outside 30 yard circle in non power play overs, but from 1st October only 2 fielders are going to be allowed outside 30 yard circle in 50-50 over cricket matches.

The question is how will it affect the present situation of ODI cricket matches.More expectedly You are going to see, that the batting team will put huge and big scores on the score board as only 2 fielders are allowed outside 30 yard circles in a ODI cricket matches. At most the bowler is going to be hit all around the park and specially on those grounds where the boundaries are minimum according to the manual of ICC,On other hand places where the pitches are on slower side will benefit batsman in scoring huge runs.Generally the pitches of sub-continent are slower and this pitches will become more heavenly for batsman.ICC have shown no mercy on bowlers and this modified rule will surely affect the economy rate of bowlers. As bowler ( pace bowler ) has already restricted to bowl a bouncer per over and spin and slow bowlers will be more severely affected by this rule and they will remain on mercy of batsman in 50-50 over cricket match.

What ever be the reason for this modified rules in ODI cricket, the equilibrium is now going to be shifted more towards the batsman,as you know 50-50 cricket matches are already batsman dominated and now this rule have provided licence to batsman to dominate more on the bowlers. It would be kind enough,if ICC have allowed 2 bouncer per over to bowlers ( Pace Bowlers ) at least to bring balance between the role of batsman and bowlers in a ODI cricket matches.

T20 Cricket World Cup Who is Hitting 100

V V Kujur | Sunday, September 16, 2012 | | | | | | | Be First to comment
T 20 Cricket World Cup is commencing on 18 September at Sri Lanka. Inaugural Match is between host Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe venue is at M. Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium, Hambantota,Tuesday at 2 PM.

As You have watched Chris Gayle hitting the first ever maidan century in T 20 International Cricket and in World Cup too,in the year 2007 at South Africa. After him Suresh Raina of India and Mahela Jayavardhane of Sri Lanka have scored centuries in last T 20 Cricket World Cup in 2010.Hope we will see more centuries in this World Cup.All the above mention players have a unique record of hitting centuries in all the three formats of Cricket.Lets see who is going to join this unique club this year or any of the above add another 100 to their tally.

Chris Gayle is most expected to hit a another century in this World Cup as he has shown tremendous form this year in T 20 cricket.Talking about others, actually starting from number one to numbers four batsman ( no. 1 and 2 are openers followed by 3 and 4 in the batting order ) of any team has a chance to hit a century,if they play a sensible cricket and keeping the strike rate above 150 plus. For example, there are only 120 legal deliveries in T 20 Cricket match. If any batsman who can play 60-70 deliveries by keeping a strike rate of 150 plus,he is the most expected to touch the score of 100 and plus.So top order batsman have a fare chance of doing so,as mentioned above.

Now You can judge, which batsman can hit a century in this T 20 Cricket World Cup.Here is list of few batsman who can do so,considering the resent form of players.Chris Gayle of West Indies as already mentioned,Shane Watson of Australia,Branden Macculum from New Zealand,Virat Kohli from India,Greame Smith from South Africa,Tilakratne Dilshan of Sri Lanka,Suresh Raina of India,M.Hafeez of Pakistan,David Warner of Australia,Mahela from Srilanka,N. O'Brien of Ireland.

Possibilities are much in favour of above mention batsman but on a given day any other batsman can hit a century.Hope we will fortunate enough to watch many players hitting centuries in this T 20 Cricket World Cup.

Sri Lanka Premier League Under Shadow of T 20 World Cup...??

V V Kujur | Saturday, September 15, 2012 | | | Be First to comment
First T 20 cricket league was scheduled just prior to T 20 World Cup at Sri Lanka. This Premier League was arranged just before the T 20 Cricket World Cup in which Uva Next win the first SLPL by the blessing of rain and Duck Worth Lewis against Nagenahira Nagas .

It has certainly helped Sri Lanka's Cricket and give local cricketers exposure to the experience of International players who are playing for different teams of the league. As for upcoming local players, the quality of domestic cricket played there is not at par with the other part of world cricket.

Though the schedule was just before the world cup,but due to strange reasons there was lack of spectators presence in earlier league matches,no doubt this was the first league arranged there.May be in coming times we will going to see ample spectators to the cricket stadium. In finals there was a big presence of crowd, nearly thirty thousands plus crowd was there to watch match between Uva v/s Nagas.May be the series against Pakistan and India was the reason, as this series was just before the start of league and the spectators love to see international matches.Or if we are wrong may be people are watching live action on televisions.

Sri Lanka Premier League Teams
So what ever may the reason for low presence but in future the organizers should arrange the league in such a time when there is no international cricket around or next time the tournament can be arranged in such a way that there is a gap between international matches hosted by Sri Lankan Cricket Board. But there is a challenge of keeping such event as other parts of World do have leagues in which many cricketers participate. If any how this can be possible it will be better for the organizers too as such a scheduling will benefit organizers, players and spectators.

We hope in next league,we are going to see is jam-packed stadiums, full of spectators and cricket lovers there.Sri Lankan spectators love visiting to stadium as they want to enjoy the situation, support and encourage players into the field,as we will see the enthusiasm of spectators in upcoming world cup at Sri Lanka.
